Tracking My Photos
March 28, 2008
Originally uploaded by bitslice
For as long as I can remember, Flickr has this feature that allows you to add specific position information (latitude/longitude pair) to each photo. It also integrates maps and satellite images onto it so you can browse pictures by the place they were taken. I wasn’t so interested in it because I didn’t have a GPS unit and thought it’s too expensive, too large, and too heavy to carry along.
Only until recently I came across those special GPS units designed for tracking photographers (and their photographs, of course). They are compact, light, and in my opinion not expensive (under USD100). They don’t have displays, just some status LEDs, and all they do are just recording GPS position on a time interval or a distance basis.
All you need to do is connect the unit to your PC and download the log files. Usually a program is provided to assist you in geocoding (or geotagging) each photo’s GPS position. That’s all. When you upload your geocoded pictures, if the web supports it, the position will be shown right next to your photo. Check out my picture above to see how it works.
Fun facts
March 27, 2008It’s probably a culture here.
I am asked about fun facts almost every times i have to introduce myself. I never really come up with good ones.
Now I have a new fun fact.
One guy in my office asked me how to give a finger in Thai. It’s funny because. most of the time peeps ask me how to say Hello, Hi Thank you, Good morning in Thai, but never how to give a finger.
His question really impresses me.

Comcast unbelivable suck!
March 18, 2008I spend 2 hrs on the phone with Comcast last night.
I got a call from a frontdesk during the day that Comcast wanted to get into my room. I told them ‘No’, I didn’t schedule any apointment and my TV and internet worked fine.
At night, I got a comcast flyer hung on my door. They definitely came up and did something althought they couldn’t enter my room.
I entered the room and there’s no TV services, no internet connection, I imediately called Comcast. A nice retired school teacher helped me figured out what’s wrong with my TV for 30 mins. He’s too nice, I didn’t say anything bad or complain. Then he forwarded me to another girl, who tried to fix the HD tv problem, regardless of my saying that I got no channels at all, not just an HD channels. She gave up and set up a technician to come in on Saturday.
How i am supposed to live for 5 days without TV and internet? And do I have to pay for these 5 days?
Regardless of this, she connected me to the internet department in the hope that they can probably fix my internet problem. They all played by the book. They tried to follow the procedure to fix my modem regardless of my saying that nothing works for me. Someone just came in and disconnect all my services for god sake.
2 hrs, i had reached my limit, I asked that I want my service back ASAP. Apparently someone just came in and disconnected my service, you all don’t have to waste your time, follow all stupid procedures, just send some one to conncect the service back tomorrow. They could disconnect my service without coming into my room, they should be able to connect it back without coming into my room. No way that I will stay at home for you guys. I know for the fact that there’s a telecommunication closet on the floor, and that’s where you can connect/disconnect service. They insisted that I have to be at home. I got work to do dude! I can’t be at home for your stupid mistake. I said i would be at home from 9-10. that’s it. After than that i cant. Do you know what did he tell me? He said if the technician came and he couldn’t enter and they would charge me the reschedule cost. and the reschedule cost is $200. What the fuck? I asked him back immediately that will comcast cover all 5 days that I don’t have internet/tv service if i schedule on Saturday. At the end they are OK to schedule a service at 9-10 sharp. Can’t you guys belive this? Comcast, you just suck. If I have other choices, I wouldn’t definitely don’t need you guys. You just charge us so redicolously expensive with your bad service.
Note, i hope that the comast guy will see this blog again as he did last time. I heard from someone that comcast PR monitor blogs to please their customers in case there are problems.

Welcome to Airbus World
March 15, 2008During the past few months I’d been training for new aircraft type-rating, an Airbus A330-300. It’s much larger than Boeing 737–with a capacity of 305 passengers, comparing to 737’s 149.
An aircraft type determines its route. Larger aircrafts fly to further destinations. (But not always the case, I must say.) A330’s destinations are located around Asia and the Middle East regions. I was so excited to explore the new places, and of course the new plane. Before each flight I tried to plan my trip during my stay at that place. (Normally after a long flight, crews get a rest period of say 24 hours before flying back.) Sounds like fun, huh?
However, that’s only one side of the coin. Further destination means longer flight time, much longer than domestic routes. Sometimes it even takes the whole night. And I believe you can imagine how it’s like to stay up late to like 5 or 6 am. It’s exhausting! I always went straight to bed after arrival from such flight. Sightseeing? Nope, maybe next time. So far only few places were visited. And my list still grows. Anyway, that’s something I’ve to get used to. Sigh.
I wish I have enough energy to explore more soon!

A Thai Airways’ Airbus 300-600 en route from Beijing to Bangkok on Feb 27th, 2008.
This was shot mid-air over China airspace around Nanning. I was at 11,600 meters (38,100 feet) and they were at 11,000 meters (36,100 feet). We were both heading for Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi airport (I was back from Shanghai). The newly implemented China RVSM airspace made it possible to spot closer at aircrafts on cruise in the same direction.
